Shivering on the 49th Parallel
Monday, June 27, 2005

I was sitting in Cafe Del Sol this morning reading the newspaper and came across this article on Page 11 of the Caymanian Compass June 27th edition:

Sunday Dancing Prohibited

Liquor License holders are being reminded that bars are not permitted to have music and dancing on Sundays.

However, restaurants and hotels are permitted to have pre-recorded music of a soft background nature, not to be heard beyond the boundaries of the property on which the music is being played, said a GIS Press Release. Dancing is not permitted.

“It is imperative that our license holders adhere to the regulations of the law,” said Board Chairman Mitchell Welds, referring to the Music and Dancing Control Law.

“We have been receiving complaints and this blatant disregard of the law cannot be ignored. If it is a matter of misinterpreting the law, now is the time to clear up any confusion because this abuse will no longer be tolerated”
