I know what you're thinking... there's no hockey! And there's no ice in Cayman! and what's with the categories? Cayman and HOCKEY?
Last month a few guys who live down here went and competed at the World Pond Hockey championships. They made it to the 3rd round of play, and got mad media attention (maybe it was the stingrays on their jerseys?) I guess they got the same sort of attention as the Jamaican Bobsled Team did at the Olympics a bunch of years ago, and they spawned a Disney movie out of that one.
Now, this is all unconfirmed rumor at the moment, but the word is that a bunch of the '84 Edmonton Oilers Stanley Cup team are coming down here at the end of April to challenge the Cayman Pond Hockey team to a little 3-on-3 ball hockey. Not to be left out of things, TSN is coming down to cover it (although Im not sure how TSN will be able to spin this into a story about Ontario...)
Apparently the Oilers already have reservations at the Westin, although details are sketchy. The Wayne is probably not coming, but The Moose, Grant Fuhr, Kevin Lowe and Dave “Cementhead” Semenko are all on the roster so far.
Keep your eyes & ears peeled and check back here often for more news as it comes available!
