Yesterday was the first day back to school for the kids of Cayman. There's no Labor Day holiday here, so they don't get a last long weekend before heading back to the books. Why do I care that school is back in session? Traffic.
Yesterday I left at 7:40am and traffic was backed up as far as the turnoff to Northwest Point Road. I ducked right and went through the West Bay backroads and came out on Willie Farrington Drive, where there were two cars ahead of me turning onto West Bay Road, but that then snaked all 7+ miles of Seven Mile Beach into town, bumper-to-bumper. It took me 45 minutes to get to work.
This morning I was proactive (or so I thought) I re-set my alarm for 0600. (What's the O stand for? O MY GOD IT'S EARLY) I got up after hitting snooze JUST ONCE and went about my morning rituals. I fed and watered Tweeter and hit the road at 0657. At 0658, I ran into the back-end of traffic, four cars back from the four-way stop in West Bay. This was less than yesterday, but still un-acceptable. I pressed my luck and turned left and came out onto Willie Farrington Dr. again. Today luck was not with me and I still hit the back end of traffic about 1/3 of the way down WIllie Farrington, around Steven's house.
At 0717 I made it to the intersection of Willie Farrington and West Bay Road and made the turn, into stopped traffic.
Stop. Go. Stop. Go. Stop. Go. I crawled along, in the sun, for 35 minutes and made it to Cafe Del Sol right about at 0800. That made for a 55 minute commute to go about nine miles. And this is just the second day of the school YEAR.
At this rate, I'll have complete breakdown and start mowing people down with my car before long. I'll be like Mike Douglas in falling down, except it's a lot harder to get your hands on a shotgun down here.
