Turns out that the big ORGANIZED reef cleanup was on Saturday, not both days like I thought. NEXT Saturday they're doing a shore-dive reef cleanup at Turtle Reef. I took a pair of work gloves with me on the first dive and managed to bring up a chair and some bent and twisted metal. I think it must have been rain guttering or something. I didn't go very far, geographically on the first dive (on the Doc Poulson) because I would range about til I found some crap, pick it up and swim it back to the wreck near the mooring line, then go out again, and bring more back, so I ended up burning through a good 2000psi of an 80 cubic foot nitrox tank. I was down for 65 mins, and we had agreed to meet back on board at 2:30pm. (Chopper and Renee were teaching a class and going to do two dives there).
Second dive I jumped back in with my nearly empty tank and rode shotgun keepin Chopper & Renee's herd in line. I managed to stretch the 1000psi remaining for another 25 mins and finished up back onboard with about 150psi left in my tank!
I'll head out again next saturday with my gloves and help with the next reef cleanup and get some pics, too.
