Shivering on the 49th Parallel

April 1st seems like a long time ago. So long ago in fact, that I don't remember what the weather was like. I'll take a wild guess though: SUNNY AND WARM.

The last couple months we've established a new tradition: parking our butts on the beach with a cooler full of beer. We usually head out there around two or three and stay til the sun sets. After the sun goes down and the temperature drops, we usually all head home to clean up and then re-convene at Legendz for "sunday dinner" together.

This past Sunday we threw a wrinkle into the plan. Matty's mum has come down for a visit, and Sharon's new friend Rocky, and her sister Sarah are here as well so we all went out on Zac's boat to Stingray City to play with the stingbats and, well, have a few frosty beverages.

Little did we know that one of the Coconut Joe's Hos was having her going away party on Zac's boat that day as well. They all started showing up right before 11am and every person who climbed onboard had another cooler full of beer and liquor. Ay carumba... along with all the booze there were certainly a lot of bikinis, too...

Booze, babes, beer and bikinis. Girls gone wild, Cayman-style. Sensory overload at it's most enjoyable. Fortunately (or rather UNfortunately) no one got Snoop-dogg gone wild, but when their party continued on at Calico Jack's or Aqua Beach, I'm sure things got a little more out of control.

Back in the day, "going north" for the day (either North wall/shallow, north wall/SRC or 3-stop/2-stop snorkel trips) meant one thing: LOTS of sunscreen. How many times did I pull those shifts over the years? how many times did I slather on the SPF30 and SPF50? How many times did I forget? Once.

Yesterday (Sunday, in case it's midnight by the time I finish typing) I got onboard before anyone else, and slapped on the SPF30 from neck to toe.. Then the Baby Faces SPF50 (it doesnt sting if it gets in your eyes... another hard lesson learned) for the face, ears, lips and neck.

After a few bevvies, I guess I forgot to re-apply the sunscreen to my back. After the trip, we went to Legendz for a late lunch/snack and then hit the beach around 4:30. Lee popped by right before sunset and had a couple beers with us, and then after everyone left, I showered and wandered over to Legendz for dinner.

As soon as I got in the shower, I knew I got more sun that I thought I did. When I got out of the shower and tried to dry off, it was totally confirmed. There was a line on my side where the red became white and made me look not unlike a Canadian flag.

This morning, after not sleeping much while laying on my stomach, I couldn't even put on a shirt. I had to go to work though, so I managed to slip on a Nike Dry-fit t-shirt that at least wouldn't stick to my angry red skin if I sweated a little. Imade it through the day, and it feels like I might be able to sleep on my side or my back tonight.

There are G and M rated pics from yesterday, but I haven't posted them yet. Check the Flickr Badge to the right over the next couple days as I get the pictures uploaded.
