Shivering on the 49th Parallel
Wednesday, February 2, 2005

I worked late last night, and then got five support calls between 0400 and 0500 this morning (it's my turn to be on call) so I was already cranky when I got in this morning and found this in my inbox (all names have been removed to protect the end-user) :

IT,
Just following up on my computer situation - Can someone advise when it will be available for use? While it’s been on my desk for two days, doesn’t seem to work
perhaps it’s me, but I used be able to press two buttons to get started. I have been unable to utilize outlook properly or access files & documents, as I have been temporarily borrowing other staffs PC’s for two weeks. If this is a ‘special PC’, please advise on what I need to do to get started.
Thanks

This was my reply:

Yes, your magic computer requires you to turn counter-clockwise in a circle and clap three times before pushing the power button.
I checked it out this morning, and the monitor was un-plugged from the power-strip, but other than that, it was up and running.
You're good to go, so long as you remember the 'special procedure' to start it up.
Have a great Wednesday
Mark
