OK so I should be in week three now, it didn't happen. I originally intended to do week one twice and that didn't really happen. Last Monday was a holiday and I went for a 2-tank dive on the north wall midday, so I didn't want to go running right away after that, plus I was tired. Diving didn't seem so hard a few years ago when I did it every day! Wednesday I did go for a week one run, and then Friday I worked late... into early Saturday actually, so I missed that one. Saturday I put in another 11 hours at work and Sunday another 9.5. Suddenly it was Monday again and after putting in another ten hour day, I was riding home wondering what I was going to do that night.

I got home and went for a run! Week 1, run #5. I felt good. My knees hurt with each step for the first interval or two but then I warmed up and I must have picked up my stride because I finished the cool-down period in the carpark in front of my apartment, rather than around the corner! I missed last night because I... wait for it... worked late again. I worked late again tonight but I vowed to leave before it got dark. I came home, stripped off the work clothes and got right into my running shorts and a t-shirt, and hit the road.

I was sitting at the bar at Legendz Saturday night after going for another week one run and showing James and John where it hurt when I was running, and they both said "shin splints" almost simultaneously. I'd heard of them before, but didn't really know what they were. I asked James how you get them and he said "well it could be from your shoes..." and John started laughing. John's come home and seen me with the gorilla glue out gluing my shoes back together. The soles are literally falling off them, one piece at a time and I've been gluing them back on. The right shoe I can actually feel a lump behind the baby toe where there's too much glue, so I said "Do you think that might have something to do with it?" and they were both like "uhm,,, yEAH?" so so much for those shoes. They still look pretty new, even though they're six years old because I never ever wore them except if I was going to the gym or going for a walk or run on one of the other many times I've started too hard and given up.

Tonight I worked late (surprise), tomorrow night is the big Ex-Soto's boys fond-farewell and Kevorkian Burger chow-down at Durty Reid's before they close and the building is knocked down, Wednesday Zac's playing at Bed and then Thursday I'm out of the loop as well, so I might as well just wait until I get a new pair of shoes and then start over again at the beginning.

At least I got a little intro to it this time around and I know I can do it and progress at least to week two next time. :)
