Shivering on the 49th Parallel

Friday was the official start to Pirate's Week 2006. This year they moved Pirate's week from the end of October to the second week of November. Why? Because for the last eight years that I've been here, Pirate's Week has been rained out more often than not! It was a good decision, too because if I remember correctly two weeks ago it was uhh, how you say? FUCKING POURING!

The Wharf actually had a pre-Pirates Week kick-off party on Thursday night with fireworks, but the "official" start was Friday night. After work Friday night I rode my Vespa downtown. As expected, with roads closed, traffic was hellish. Not for me, though. I rode through the traffic all the way around behind the downtown core and parked right behind the Hard Rock Cafe and walked about fifty yards to where 96.5 CayRock had set up their stage for "Pirate's Week Rocks" with Ratskyn. I was late getting there, as they started at six, but whatever. I found Stephie and Zac's family right away, and then found Gordy a few minutes later.

Ratskyn rocked out right up 'til 8:00 when the fireworks kicked off. Whoever does the fireworks down here, whether they're brought in, or it's someone who lives here, rocks. World-class all the way. If he/they DO live here, I'm surprised they don't compete in the Symphony of Fire.

Ratskyn took a break and Gordy and I did a lap around downtown to see what kind of food stalls were set up and of course to do a Titty Patrol. I ended up going for the pig sandwich at Hard Rock. I'm a sucker for pulled pork. heh heh that sounded bad.

It was actually a pretty early night, and I left for home around 10:30 or so. That was about the time that the "main stage" that Digicel set up was starting to get going. I'm not sure what time the street party went on until, but later than I could stay up.
