Shivering on the 49th Parallel

I havent written much in here lately, and that's because I haven't really had much of anything to say. Rather than spout BS just for the sake of posting, I tend to post only when I have something to share.

Went to Club Octopus again last night, and I'm paying for it this morning. It looks like Ratskyn has a standing gig with them on Thursdays now, which is cool. It's got good potential to be *the* live-music venue on The Rock: good acoustics and a good sound system, too. They also have another weekly gig starting up soon, but I don't know if it's public knowledge yet or not, so I'll keep it to myself for now.

Spring breakers are starting to show up on the island a little bit. There was a pair of girls I spoke to briefly on Monday night, and someone showed up with a couple more spring breakers to Club Octopus last night too. I don't know how MUCh spring break traffic there will be this year, as there aren't a lot of hotel rooms available for them to come down TO. I guess that's good for the ones who DO make it down, they'll be able to grab a piece of the beach and not be crowded.

I've been messing with the template for the web site this past week as well. I added the GoogleAds which for the moment are up at the top. I'm not sure I like them up there and I may relocate them to the side, but the side is getting pretty cluttered up, too. I've got a better understanding of CSS now as well, and I've been mucking about with that. I've added in some new content filters, which I now understand, thanks to Ray. It's nothing that a reader would notice, but what they do is, for instance, if I want to link something to a google search, rather than open up another window (or tab) and do the google search, copy & paste the link into here, I would just type $ g (search term) and it would replace the string with a link to google for that search. I also have em now for IMDB searches, Wikipedia searches and Dictionary.com searches.

The other thing I set up this week was iPodder. Now that I've “had a sip of the Kool-Aid” as How put it, I decided to give it a whirl. The misnomer there is that you dont have to have an iPod to use iPodder, you can do it with Windows Media Player or MusicMatch Jukebox as well as iTunes, or any other media player/library that has a “watch folders”-type function. I've been meaning to give it a try for a month or so now, and technically I've been doing it (manually) for a few months now, downloading/listening to DotNetRocks which Rich is now co-hosting. Basically what iPodder is, is a time-shifting program for internet radio. I suppose I could just plug my Shuffle into the USB port when Im at home and it will always be charged and always have the “latest” shows it downloads for me into there.

The problem I'm running into right now is that even though Im only downloading maybe a half-dozen different tv shows to watch when I feel like, four or five radio shows and about 90 or so RSS feeds in my aggregator is that I really don't have time to sit and watch/listen/read them in a timely manner. I suppose Xbox Live is responsible for that. :D

I'm finally starting to get into my groove on Halo2. Just like in December when we first started playing Halo2 and I was getting my ass kicked by Seb and Martin (and even Chopper!) all of a sudden one afternoon I started kicking ass again. Im definately NOT kicking ass on Xbox Live, but I would say three games out of five I'm not getting annhialated twice as many times as I make kills. Orkley's finally gotten off his upholstered seat and started logging in and playing with. It's a bit difficult to get a good time arranged, because he's three hours behind. When Im finishing up my night, he's just getting home from work. We have managed to play together the last couple nights and it's been cool. Last night we had a good party going, eight of us, and played 2-on-2-on-2-on-2 Slayer. We came in dead last, but it was fun. :) Now we just have to convince The Wop Squad that Halo2 is fun and get them online and we can have a good ole fragfest... That and borrow a projector from work and have a ten-foot screen on the wall so Seb doesnt get queasy playing split-screen ;)
